Vaccine "would be ready by early next year" - a U.S. pharmaceutical giant announces a forecast

アメリカの医薬品大手 ジョンソン・エンド・ジョンソンは、新型コロナウイルスに対するワクチンを来年早い時期に完成させ、およそ10億回分接種できる量を提供できるようになるという見通しを発表しました。

新型コロナウイルスはこれまでのところ効果がはっきりと確認された治療薬は見つかっておらず、予防のためのワクチンもないため、複数の研究機関や民間企業が治療薬の効果の確認や新たなワクチンの開発に取り組んでいます。

アメリカの医薬品大手ジョンソン・エンド・ジョンソンは30日、ワクチンの開発の見通しについて「来年の早い時期に完成する」という見通しを発表しました。

発表によりますと、ワクチンの候補となる物質はすでに絞り込みを終え、遅くともことし９月にはヒトでの臨床試験を開始し、安全性と効果を確認するということです。

そして来年の早い時期にアメリカＦＤＡ＝食品医薬品局から承認を受け、世界に提供できる見通しだとしています。

また、生産体制を拡大し、早い時期に10億回分の接種ができる量を生産可能だということです。

ワクチンをめぐっては、アメリカＮＩＨ＝国立衛生研究所と民間企業が今月から開発中のワクチンの臨床試験を始めているほか、各国の製薬ベンチャー企業や研究機関も開発を急いでいて、新型コロナウイルスの感染拡大を終息させる切り札として世界的な期待が高まっています。

Johnson & Johnson, a major US pharmaceutical company, announced that it would be able to complete a vaccine for the new coronavirus by early next year and provide an amount of approximately one billion doses.

About the new coronavirus, so far no curing medicine that could show clearly confirmed therapeutic effect had been found, and there was no vaccine for prevention. Several research institutions and private companies had been working on confirming the effect of some curing medicine on top of the developing new vaccines.

U.S. pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson announced on the 30th its outlook for vaccine development and forecast that it might be "complete by early next year".

According to the announcement, vaccine candidate substances had already been narrowed down, and clinical trials on humans would begin in September this year at the latest to confirm safety and effectiveness.

Then by early next year, it would be approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and expected to be made available worldwide.

It also meant that the production system could be expanded to produce an amount of one billion inoculation dosage at an early stage.

Regarding vaccines, the America NIH = the National Institutes of Health together with some private enterprises had from this month started clinical trial for vaccines that was under development. Apart from that, as pharmaceutical venture companies and research institutes around the world were speeding up their development, there were growing global expectation that they would be the trump card to end the spreading of new corona virus infection.
