發展東京墨田區成為国際観光都市

東京スカイツリーがある墨田区は、２０２０年の東京オリンピック・パラリンピックに向けて外国人観光客の増加が見込まれることから、葛飾北斎の作品を集めた美術館を建てるとともにスカイツリーと周辺の観光地を結ぶ旅行プランを開発するなど、国際観光都市としてのまちづくりを進めていくことになりました。

これは、墨田区が新年度・平成２６年度の予算案に盛り込んだもので、およそ１７億４０００万円を国際観光都市としてのまちづくりに充てています。
このうち１１億円は、墨田区に住んでいた葛飾北斎の作品を集めた美術館「すみだ北斎美術館」の着工費として計上しています。
また、墨田区を訪れる外国人を対象に観光に関するアンケートをしたり、東南アジアから旅行会社などを招いてスカイツリーと周辺の観光地を結ぶツアーを開発したりする事業に１０００万円余りを計上しました。
さらに５億７０００万円余りをかけて、スカイツリー周辺で電線を地中化して景観を整えたり段差をなくしてバリアフリーの道路を整備したりすることにしています。墨田区は「オリンピックに向けて外国人観光客が増えるので海外で人気の高い葛飾北斎の美術館を建設し、迎える環境を整えて国際観光都市としてアピールしたい」と話しています。

Sumida-district, with the Tokyo Skytree, expected an increase in foreign tourists who would come for the Tokyo Olympic Games and the Paralympics in 2020. With the building of an art museum that collected Hokusai Katsushika's work, the plan was to make the city into an international tourist city, for example to push ahead the development of a traveling plan that could connect the surrounding tourist resorts to the Skytree.

Sumida-district incorporated these into its new fiscal year and a draft budget for Heisei 26 fiscal year had appropriated about 1,740 million yen to design the city into an international tourist city.

Among these, for an art museum which collected the work of Hokusai Katsushika who had lived in Sumida-ku, 1,100 million yen had been appropriated as groundbreaking expenses for the “Sumida Hokusai Art Museum".

Moreover, a little more than 10 million yen was appropriated to do a questionnaire survey on sightseeing which targeted at foreigners who visited the Sumida-district, and also to start an adventure to invite tourist companies etc. from Southeast Asia to develop tourism by connecting the surrounding tourist resorts to the Skytree.

Furthermore, a little more than 570 million yen would be spent on the electric wiring around Skytree to make them underground to improve the scene, and to prepare barrier-free roads by eliminating the steps. The Sumida-district was saying that "since foreign tourists would increase in number towards the Olympic Games, I would like to make the Hokusai Katsushika Art Museum popular overseas and, with an improved environment, to appeal to greet this city as an international tourist city".

Hopefully I shall be visiting Tokyo for the Olympic Games in 2020.
