世界最高齢男性・112歳渡辺智哲さん死去
12日前にギネス認定でガッツポーズ

世界最高齢の男性として、12日にギネス世界記録に認定されたばかりだった新潟県上越市の渡辺智哲(ちてつ)さんが23日深夜、老衰のため入所先の介護老人保健施設で死去した。112歳だった。通夜は27日午後6時、葬儀は28日午前10時半、上越市石橋2の2の5の直江津セレモニーホールへいあんで、喪主は孫哲也(てつや)さん。
1907(明治40)年3月5日、旧浦川原村(現上越市)生まれ。高校卒業後、製糖会社の台湾工場に勤務。終戦後は地元に引き揚げて県職員になり、定年後は農業に従事した。5人の子どもに孫12人、ひ孫16人、やしゃごが1人いる。
長男の妻洋子さん(81)によると、ギネス認定後に食事がとれなくなり、点滴を受けていた。21日ごろから発熱があり、息が荒くなっていたという。
渡辺さんは12日、入所する介護老人保健施設で、英ギネス・ワールド・レコーズ社から公式認定証を手渡され、「おめでとう」とうれしそうに受け取りガッツポーズ。前もって自らしたためた「世界一」の書とともに記念撮影するなど元気な様子を見せていた。【浅見茂晴】

Mr. Chitetsu Watanabe of Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture,
who had just been certified by the Guinness World Record on the 12th as the
world's oldest man, passed away due to aging at midnight on the 23rd at a
nursing home for the elderly. He was 112. The all-night vigil would be at 6:00
pm on the 27th, and the funeral at 10:30 am on the 28th; solace would
be at the Naoetsu ceremony hall at 2-2-5, Ishibashi of Joetsu-city, and the chief
mourner would be Mr. Tetsuya.
Born on March 5, 1907 (Meiji 40) in the former
Urakawahara-mura (now Joetsu City) and after graduating from high school, he worked
for a sugar factory in Taiwan. After the war, he returned to his hometown and
became a prefectural official. After retirement, he engaged in agriculture. His
five children had 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
According to the wife his eldest son, Yoko (81), he was
unable to eat after receiving the Guinness certification and was receiving
intravenous drip. He had a fever around the 21st and his breath was getting
rough.
On the 12th Mr. Watanabe received an official certificate
from the UK Guinness World Records at the nursing home for the aged, and he joyfully
received a “congratulations” with a guts pose. He was in good health, taking a
commemorative photo with the book “World No. 1” that had written about him
