New Coronavirus - Clinical Research on "Healer's Plasma Treatment" Started

新型コロナウイルスの患者に、感染して回復した人の血液の成分を投与する新しい治療法の臨床研究を国立国際医療研究センターなどのグループが始めることがわかりました。

中国では重症患者への効果が報告されていて、担当する医師は「重症患者の治療の切り札になる可能性もある」としています。

この臨床研究は、新型コロナウイルスの治療の中核を担う国立国際医療研究センターなどのグループが進めているもので、23日、病院内の倫理委員会で正式に承認されたということです。

「回復者血しょう治療」と呼ばれるこの治療法は、過去に新型コロナウイルスに感染し、回復した人の血液からウイルスなどを攻撃する「抗体」が含まれた「血しょう」と呼ばれる成分を取り出し、患者に投与するもので、中国では、症例数は少ないものの重症患者の症状が改善したという報告があります。

計画では、回復した人およそ50人から１人400ミリリットルの血液の提供を受け、血しょうを患者50人に投与し、安全性や効果を調べるということです。

グループでは来週以降、回復した人に血液の提供を呼びかけ、早ければ来月にも患者への投与を始めたいとしています。

臨床研究を担当する忽那賢志医師は「回復した人の抗体を使う治療法はエボラ出血熱などでも効果が出ており、一定の効果がみられると期待している。確実な治療薬がない中で、重症患者の治療の切り札になる可能性がある」と話しています。

In China, this had been reported to have effects on critically ill patients, and the doctor in charge said that “it may be a trump card for treating the critically ill patients.”

This clinical study was being carried out by a group such as the National Center for Global Health Care and Medicine which had played a central role in the treatment of new coronavirus, and on the 23rd this was officially approved by the Ethics Committee of the hospital.

This treatment method was called "Healer's plasma treatment". From the blood of people who had  recovered from the new coronavirus infection, a component called "plasma" that contained "antibodies" which attacked viruses etc. was taken out and then administered it into patients. In China, although the number of cases was small, there were reports that the symptoms in the severely ill patients had improved.

The plan was said to get about 50 recovered people and to receive 400 millilitres of blood from each of them,  then to give plasma to 50 patients to examine its safety and efficacy.

The group from next week would encourage those people who had recovered to donate blood, and would start administering it into patients as early as next month.

Dr. Kenshi Kana who was the in charge of this clinical research said, "The treatment method using the antibody of the recovered person is effective also with Ebola hemorrhagic fever, and I expect that it will have a certain effect. As there is no sure curing drug, this could be a trump card for treating the critically ill patients. "

              So, the so called “Healer's plasma treatment" may give hope to the critically ill patients.
