"True Hell": How are President Maduro and his wife being treated at a notorious detention center?

 Recently CNN.co.jp reported the following:

"True Hell": How are President Maduro and his wife being treated at a notorious detention center?

(CNN) Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, who were facing drug-related and other charges in the United States, had been forced to live in a New York detention center, a stark departure from their luxurious palace life.

They were being held at Brooklyn's notorious Metropolitan Detention Center. "It's true hell," said Sam Mangel, a consultant specializing in federal prisons. "There's barely any heating. Everyone is given one wool blanket. They slept on metal beds with very thin two-inch mattresses and pillows."

At the Metropolitan Detention Center, also known as MDC, power outages, staff shortages, and inmate complaints constantly happened.

CNN was unable to confirm the treatment of the Maduros. Neither the guards nor the couple's lawyers responded to requests for comment.

Mangel speculated that Maduro and his wife were likely being held in separate cells in a section away from the general inmate population.

Mangel characterized Maduro as a "security risk" in detention. "We don't know what the gang members and drug traffickers held there think about him. Therefore, placing him with the general inmate population would be a tremendous security risk for the detention center."

Until their arrest by U.S. forces on the 3rd, Maduro and his wife lived in the huge Miraflores Palace, the presidential residence.

They were now detained in the same detention center as defendants involved in violent crimes and high-profile cases.

The MDC, described by lawyers and inmates alike as "sickening" and "horrifying," was also a truly dangerous place. In 2024, two inmates were murdered by other inmates.

So, Maduro and his wife who are facing drug-related and other charges in the United States have been forced to live in a New York detention center after being arrested by U.S. forces on the 3rd. Apparently, this arrest will  impact the international communities in many respects: the upholding of international laws, the geopolitics in south America, the reliability of air defense systems of individual countries, and the future of oil supply globally etc.
