沖縄県の石垣島に今月、開設された陸上自衛隊の駐屯地について、住民を対象にした説明会が22日夜開かれました。

防衛省は南西諸島の防衛を強化するとして、今月16日、石垣島に陸上自衛隊の新たな駐屯地、「石垣駐屯地」を開設しました。

これに関連して22日夜、防衛省と石垣市が住民を対象に説明会を開き、防衛省側の担当者は駐屯地に置かれるミサイルなどの装備や、今後予定している訓練などについて説明しました。

また、参加した住民が「『反撃能力』を行使するためのミサイルが石垣島に配備される可能性は高いのではないか」と質問したのに対し、「具体的な配備先は決まっていない」と答えていました。

このほか、参加者からは、駐屯地からの排水の処理やヘリコプターの運用についての質問のほか、「自衛隊を配備するのではなく、もっと外交で努力してほしい」といった意見も出されていました。

説明会は定員およそ1000人の会場で開かれましたが、参加したのはおよそ170人で、空席が目立ちました。

参加した30代の農家の男性は、「説明を聞いても、不安が残ったままの人がいるだろうと感じました。今後、『反撃能力』を行使するためのミサイルが配備されるのかや、駐屯地がさらに大きくなるのではないかといった点が心配です」と話していました。
