Confirmation of another mutant virus - “Antibody may be weaken”

新型コロナウイルスの変異ウイルスについて東京医科歯科大学のグループは、イギリスなどで広がったのとは異なる別の変異ウイルスを確認したと発表しました。感染力が高まる変異はないものの抗体の働きが弱くなる可能性があるということです。

これは東京医科歯科大学の武内寛明講師らのグループが発表しました。

グループは大学の附属病院を訪れた新型コロナウイルスの患者から検体を集め、ウイルスの遺伝情報を詳しく調べました。

その結果、去年12月下旬から先月中旬までの間に診察した3人の患者から検出されたウイルスに「E484K」と呼ばれる遺伝子の変異が確認されたということです。

「E484K」の変異は抗体の攻撃を避ける性質に関係するとされ、同じ変異は南アフリカやブラジルで確認された変異ウイルスでも見つかっていますが、これらのウイルスとは違って感染力を高める変異はありませんでした。

3人の患者は海外への渡航歴はなくいずれも無症状か軽症だったということです。

グループでは「抗体が効きにくいタイプの変異ウイルスが市中でどのくらい広がっているかは分からないが、推移をモニタリングして流行の実態を把握することが重要だ」としています。

また、国立感染症研究所は同様の変異ウイルスはこれまでに関東全域で91件、空港検疫で2件、見つかっていることを明らかにし、今後、実態を把握していくと発表しています。

国立感染症研究所ではこれまでに見つかっているイギリスで広がった変異ウイルスなどと同様の警戒が必要な状況では無いとしていて、いずれの変異ウイルスに対しても3密を避けることやマスクの着用、手洗いなどの徹底といった基本的な対策は変わらないとしています。

This was announced by a group of lecturers that included Hiroaki Takeuchi from Tokyo Medical and Dental University.

The group collected samples from patients with the new coronavirus who visited the university hospital and then examined the genetic information of the virus in detail.

As a result, a mutation in a gene called "E484K" was confirmed in the virus that was found in three patients who the group examined between the end of December last year and the middle of last month.

The mutation of "E484K" was said to be related to the property of avoiding antibody attack, and the same mutation was found in mutant viruses confirmed in South Africa and Brazil, but unlike those viruses, there was no mutation that could enhance infectivity here.

The three patients had no history of traveling abroad and were all with mild symptom or no symptom.

The group supposed that “it is unknown on how widespread is the mutant virus which makes difficult for antibodies to work, but it is important to monitor the transition and understand the actual condition of the epidemic."

In addition, the National Institute of Infectious Diseases revealed that 91 similar mutant virus cases had been found throughout the Kanto region and 2 cases in airport quarantine, and announced that they would keep track of the actual situation in the future.

The National Institute of Infectious Diseases said that it was not a situation that would require the same caution as the mutant virus that was spreading in the United Kingdom so far. To deal with any mutant virus, basic measures such as avoiding the “three closeness”, wearing a mask, and washing hands thoroughly would not change.

              In the nature world, the virus is constantly mutating. This posts new challenges to human in fighting against virus infections.
