元ビートルズの歌手のポール・マッカートニー氏（７０）が英国の人気司会者デビッド・フロスト氏とのインタビューで、ビートルズ解散について「（故ジョン・レノン夫人の）オノ・ヨーコがビートルズを壊したわけではない。グループはすでに壊れかかっていた」と語った。
英紙オブザーバー（電子版）が伝えた。
オノさんをめぐっては、熱狂的なファンなどの間でマッカートニー氏との不仲がささやかれ、ビートルズ解散の原因を作ったなどとする反感が向けられていた。
だが、マッカートニー氏は「『イマジン』のような歌はヨーコがいなければ決して書かれなかっただろう」と指摘。「ヨーコの魅力の一部は前衛芸術家としての顔にあり、彼女がジョンにそれを示した。ジョンにとってグループを去るべき時だったのだ」と述べた。

But Mr. McCartney indicated that a song
like ‘Imagine’ would probably never be written if there was no Yoko. It was
said that "A part of Yoko's charm was the face of an avant-garde artist,
and she showed it to John. For John, it was the time to leave the group".
It is an interesting story, probably it is true.
