MINNEAPOLIS (CNN) - The number of non-farm employees grew by 199,000, according to the November employment report released by the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics on the 8th. It recorded a strong increase in sales that continued from the previous month, due in part to the fact that strikes among actors and auto factory workers had been settled.
The unemployment rate fell to 3.7% from 3.9% recorded in October.
Jane Oates, a former Labor Department official who was now CEO of an employment related nonprofit Working Nation said, "The economy remains strong". He said that although predictions made two weeks earlier said that the numbers would be disastrous, when the lid was open the results showed much better results.
According to financial information firm Refinitiv, economists had expected a net increase of 180,000 jobs in November, with the unemployment rate remaining flat.
The labor force participation rate rose 0.1 percentage point to 62.8%, returning to its highest level since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. This was a favorable situation for lowering the unemployment rate, said Daniel Chao who was an economist at Glassdoor at a US company review website.
Looking at employment growth by sector, the medical sector recorded the largest increase of 93,200 people in November. The number of government employees also increased significantly by 49,000. The increase was also notable in manufacturing, where striking auto factory workers returned. Employment related to automobiles and auto parts had increased by 30,000 people.
Last month, the Screen Actors Guild, which included Hollywood actors and other members, also announced that it had reached a tentative agreement with major film and television production companies to end the strike. These moves led to the addition of 17,200 jobs in the film and recording industry.
So, in the US the number of
non-farm employees grew by 199,000 recently. It records a strong increase in
sales that continued from the previous month. It seems that the US economic
situation is far from going downhill.
