Production bases for masks, etc. - Government will subsidize a total of 70 billion yen for their relocation out of China

政府は、マスクやアルコール消毒液など中国に一極集中している工場を国内に移す企業などに合わせておよそ700億円を補助する方針を固めました。生産拠点を分散させてサプライチェーンの強化につなげたい考えです。

新型コロナウイルスの感染拡大に伴って、中国からの輸入に頼っているマスクなどの調達が滞り、特定の国に生産拠点が集中することのリスクが浮き彫りになりました。

このため政府は、工場を国内に回帰させたり東南アジアに分散させたりする企業の費用を補助することを決めていますが、関係者によりますと、マスクの生産を手がける仙台市のアイリスオーヤマやアルコール消毒液を生産する大阪市のサラヤなど、国内に生産を回帰させる57件の事業に対して補助を行う方針を固めました。

また、マスクや自動車部品の生産を中国などからベトナムやタイなど東南アジアに分散させる事業30件に対しても補助を行う方針で、補助金の総額は、およそ700億円に上る見通しです。

政府は、16日にも対象とする企業名などを公表することにしていて、サプライチェーンの強化につなげたい考えです。

With the spread of the new coronavirus infection, the procurement of masks, etc., which depend on imports from China, was delayed; it highlighted the risk of production centers being concentrated in specific countries.

For this reason, the government had decided to subsidize the cost of companies returning their factories to home and dispersing them to Southeast Asia. According to a person involved, a policy to subsidize 57 businesses that would return production to Japan had been established, such as Iris Oyama in Sendai, which manufactures masks, on top of  Saraya in Osaka, which produced alcohol disinfectant.

In addition, it was planned to subsidize 30 businesses that would disperse mask and automobile parts production from China etc. to Southeast Asia such as Vietnam and Thailand. The total amount of subsidies was expected to reach approximately 70 billion yen.

The government would announce the target company names on the 16th, with a view to strengthen the supply chain.

              So, some Japanese companies inside China will be moved out in the coming months. In many ways, some South-east Asia countries will be benefited from such a policy, both technologically and economically.
