Recently the Yomiuri News on-line reported the following:

At the end of last year Panasonic had ended the production of VHS system home video recorders currently sold domestically.

VHS system products were put on the market since 1977, their production were ended in about 35 years.

Up to last year the VHS system recorders with DVD and the hard disk were produced in China. Since the VHS could not record the high-definition ground digital broadcasting, it was judged that their demand would come to an end. It was said that their production would be partly continued for overseas markets.

The VHS system in Japan finally comes to an end after being used for 35 years.
