Recently the Yomiuri New on-line reported the following:
8日午後2時頃、神奈川県大和市上草柳の県道などに、米海軍厚木基地所属の航空機「EA―6Bプラウラー」の部品が落下した。
県道を走行していた乗用車の屋根に金属片の一つが当たったが、けが人はなかった。
同基地によると、落下したのは、エンジン周辺のアルミ製カバーの一部で、大きいもので縦2メートル18、横1メートル7。訓練から基地に戻る途中に落下した。
大和署によると、金属片は6個見つかり、県道の車道と歩道に散乱していた。現場は相模鉄道相模大塚駅の東約600メートルで、厚木基地の北側フェンス沿い。捜索や撤去のため、県道40号が約1時間半、通行止めになった。
県基地対策課によると、同県内の米軍機による落下物事故は2011年2月以来。地元自治体と調整し、再発防止や安全管理の徹底を要請するとしている。

Some parts that belonged to the US Navy Atsugi Naval Air Base airplane "EA-6B Prowler" fell to the prefecture road etc. in Kamisoyagi, Yamato city, Kanagawa prefecture at around 2:00 p.m. on the 8th.
Although one of the metal piece had hit the roof of a passenger car which was travelling at the prefecture road, no one was injured.
According to the base, it was part of the aluminum made engine covering, and the large piece fallen was having 2 meters 7 in length and 1 meter 18 in width. It fell while returning to base from training.
According to the Daiwa station, six metal pieces were found and were scattered on the driveway and sidewalk of the prefecture road. The spot was about 600 meters east of the Sagami-ootsuka Station of the Sagami Railway and was along the north side fencing of the Atsugi Naval Air Base. The traffic of the prefecture road No. 40 was stopped for about 1 hour and a half for searching and retrieval.
According to the base management division of the prefecture, this falling object accident by the U.S. Forces plane in the prefecture was the one since February, 2011. It would co-ordinate with the local self-governing body, and demand thorough safety control and prevention of future occurrence.
It would be a big news if someone on the ground was hit and injured by the fallen metal object.
