Recently the FNN News on-line reported the following:

The National Health and Nutrition Survey which was done by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare showed that, regarding the rate of the household that had stock up food for emergencies in preparation for the time of a disaster, it was found that by area Tokai district was the highest and the Kyushu district was the lowest.

In response to the Great East Japan Earthquake, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare for the first time investigated the rate of household that  had stocked up the emergency provisions for use during the time of a disaster.

According to it, by the area, it was said that the Tokai district was the highest at 65.9%, and the Kyushu district was the lowest at 24.6%. In the Tokai district, since the occurrence of a big earthquake had been predicted from sometime past, residents' sense of crisis was expected to be strong and preparation in progress was seen.

It was said that the national average was 47.4% and most households were stocking water and tea.

On the other hand, the percentage of those who smoke tobacco habitually was 20.1%, there was a minor increase from the previous year that had fallen below twenty percent for the first time since the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare started this investigation.
It was said that an increase in female smokers was the cause for the percentage increase.

It is obviously that the Japanese living at the eastern part have a stronger sense of crisis.
