Recently the NHK News reported the following:

It was clarified that the Chinese railway ministry was applying for patents on the technologies which they had developed after receiving them from foreign countries; and the procedure to apply for patents in the manufacturing of vehicles used in the rapid-transit railway was in progress in Japan and Europe, etc.
Based on an English-Language governmental newspaper the "China Daily" in China, according to a story told by the senior officials in the Chinese railway ministry, the Chinese government had initiated the application procedure to get patents on the technologies concerning the vehicle used in the rapid-transit railway in countries such as Japan, the United States, Brazil, Europe, and Russia. Their application was to apply for 21 patents in the carriage body of the high-speed train and the outside shape, etc. , applying according to the international patent application system: the "Patent Cooperation Treaty"; among these, they had already passed eight patients examinations in the preparatory phase. However, because these vehicles for use in the rapid-transit railway was developed and manufactured by China using licensed technologies from the enterprises of four countries in Japan, Germany, France, and Canada, it was pointed out that there was the possibility that disputes could happen with these enterprises over the patents in the future. The Chinese government was insisting to the end saying that "It is a technology that was absorbed from other countries, and then improvements are added repeatedly" and that the technology was of Chinese origin. It was expected that when the patents were obtained in foreign countries, they would post export competition to countries such as the United States and Brazil in the rapid-transit railway, and there was the aim for China to get a dominating position in the future.
When China has mastered the technology, competition would be inevitable.
