Recently the NHK News on-line reported the following:

On the 10th, the visiting party from Vietnam's local government opened an investment seminar in the metropolitan area; mentioned as the target of their country was to achieve the development of their supporting industries; it appealed for the coming of Japanese small and medium-sized enterprises that manufactures parts etc.
This seminar was an event of the Donai prefecture government located in southern Vietnam, this prefecture held it for the first time in seven years. The People Committee, being the top organization of the prefecture, had its chairperson acting as the head of the team and the person responsible for welcoming the enterprises; the team had 38 people.
At the seminar, committee chairman Din Kuokku Tai said "we are evaluating and welcoming the supporting industry which can manufacture parts", and appealed for investment by Japanese small and medium-sized enterprises.
With the lowest wage level in Southeast Asia, Vietnam called for investment; although economic development had continued, their supporting industry that supply parts to factories did not grow, they had to depend on imports. As such the chronic trade deficit had been a subject.
For this reason, in Vietnam the development of supporting industry was mentioned as a national goal since last year. The different prefecture governments were extending attraction to Japanese small and medium-sized enterprises; and the representatives of four prefectures were visiting Japan successively at least this month.
On the other hand, the concern of Japanese small and medium-sized enterprises to expand outwards was strong due to the influence of the strong yen etc. On the 10th 250 people, exceeding the capacity, had participated. They listened attentively to the explanation on the preferential treatment in tax etc. which the prefecture government was now reviewing.
One of the managers of the small and medium-sized enterprises which had participated said that " comparing with major companies, I think that it is late for going overseas. I would like to use it as a good opportunity."

As Japan increases its overseas investment, the trade ties between Japan and Vietnam would increase gradually.
