Moderna and AstraZeneca vaccines – to be officially approved tomorrow

欧米の製薬会社、モデルナとアストラゼネカの新型コロナウイルスのワクチンについて、厚生労働省の専門家部会が承認することを了承したことを受けて、田村厚生労働大臣は、21日にも正式に承認する考えを示しました。

厚生労働省は20日夜、専門家部会を開いて、アメリカのモデルナのワクチンと、イギリスのアストラゼネカがオックスフォード大学と共同で開発したワクチンの2種類について、有効性が認められるなどとして、いずれも承認することを了承しました。

これを受けて、田村厚生労働大臣は20日夜、記者団に対し「いずれのワクチンも承認して差し支えないと結論を頂いた。速やかに特例承認を行うこととする」と述べ、21日にも正式に承認する考えを示しました。

そのうえで田村大臣は、現在はファイザーのワクチンのみが使用されていることを踏まえ「今までは1本のトラックで走っていたが、新たなトラックを作れることで、より接種をスムーズに進めやすくなる」と述べました。

一方、極めてまれに血栓が生じるリスクがあると指摘されているアストラゼネカのワクチンについて「関連する学会と協力し、診断や治療の手引を策定して医療従事者と情報共有する。特に初期の症状として頭痛などがあるので、接種を受けた人にも情報を周知し、医療機関もすぐに対応してもらう形を徹底する」と述べました。

In response, Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare Tamura told reporters on the night of the 20^th that, "We have concluded that it is okay to approve these two vaccines. It will be promptly approved as a special case," and expressed his intention to officially approve it on the 21st.

On top of that, Minister Tamura  based on the fact that only Pfizer vaccine was currently used, said "so far we are proceeding on one track, by creating a new track, it will be easier to push forward with the inoculations"

On the other hand, regarding the AstraZeneca vaccine, which had been pointed out to have  risks in developing blood clots in extremely rare cases, it was said that "academic societies that are related will be collaborated, diagnostic and treatment guidance will be developed, information will be shared with healthcare professionals. Because there will be headaches especially as early symptoms etc., we will make sure that the people vaccinated will be told about the information, and that medical institutions will immediately implement a form of response thoroughly. "

              So, Japan will have Moderna and AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines soon. Japan is slow in the use of vaccine compared with other major developed countries.
