Recently the Yomiuri News on-line reported the following:

The business of companies was recovering was obvious.
The total among of after-tax profit of the 3 largest banking groups'
consolidated statements for the term period April - December 2013 came out
fully on the third; it showed that their profit was the highest after the
Lehman shock of 2008, standing at 2,053,200 million yen. Other than the financial companies, the profit of broad types of industries had also increased one after another
in succession. It became a focus whether the strong earnings of these companies
would reach consumers through the wage increase.
Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group's profit from overseas-oriented loans
was good; also there was an increased profit from selling off the Exchange
Traded Funds (ETF) etc. due to increased stock prices. Its after-tax profit was
the highest ever, standing at 704,700 million yen. Mizuho Financial Group
recorded the highest profit after the Lehman shock to stand at 563,100 million
yen, the Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group was 785,400 million yen that was an
equivalent to roughly a 50 percent increase.
If the stock market could remain strong, these three mega banks could approach
their highest profit level in their full-term account settlement
ending March 2014.
