Brazil - Vaccine made in China is the "safest", yet data not shown

（ＣＮＮ） 南米ブラジルで生物医学研究などを主導するとされるブタンタン研究所は２７日までに、新型コロナウイルス対策のワクチンについて中国の製薬企業「シノバック」が開発した製品が世界中で検査されている各種のワクチンの中で「最も安全」と主張した。

同研究所のディマス・カバス所長がサンパウロで開いた記者会見で述べた。ただ、最も安全との主張を裏付けるデータには触れなかった。契約内容での制約がありこのワクチンの有効性について公表することは出来ないと説明した。

ブラジルでは現在、このワクチンの最終治験がシノバックとブタンタン研究所によって進められている。治験で得られたデータは来年１月、国際的なメディアの行事に合わせて発表予定とした。

カバス所長は治験で発見したデータなどは紹介出来ないとしながらも、このワクチンは中国やブラジルで緊急時使用許可を獲得出来るほど十分に効果的とも主張した。少なくとも５０％の有効性を持っていることを示唆したと受けとめられている。

米国で緊急使用が承認されたファイザー社製のワクチンなどの有効性は最大で９５％となっている。

ブラジル政府はシノバックのワクチン調達の契約をしている。

(CNN) On the 27th the Butantan Institute, which was said to be leading a biomedical research in Brazil of South America and had been testing vaccines for the new coronavirus developed all over the world had claimed that the Chinese pharmaceutical company "Sinovac" was the "safest" of all the various vaccines.

Dimas Kabas, director of the institute, said this at a press conference in Sao Paulo. However, he did not touch on the data that supported his claim that it was the safest. He explained that the effectiveness of this vaccine could not be announced due to contract restrictions.

Currently in Brazil, the final trial of this vaccine was underway by the Sinovac together with the Butantan Institute. The data obtained from the clinical trial would be announced in January next year at an international media event.

Although Director Kabas couldn't share the data found in the trial, he further claimed that the vaccine was effective enough to obtain an emergency use authorization in China and Brazil. This was perceived as suggesting that it had at least 50% effectiveness.

Vaccines manufactured by Pfizer which had been approved for emergency use in the United States had a maximum effectiveness of 95%.

The Brazilian government had a contract to buy Sinovac vaccine.

              So, I am looking forward to know the data obtained from the clinical trial which will be announced in January 2021 at an international media event. After getting support and approval on its vaccine in the Middle East, the Chinese vaccines seems to have another foothold now, this time in South America.
