Recently the Yomiuri New reported the following:
It seemed to be difficult for the confrontation between the two countries to find a starting point to begin reconciliation.
On the 18th, the Prime Minister conferred with the Chief Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Minister Maehara et al. at the Prime Minister official residence, and received an up-dated explanation from the executives of the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy about the problem that machine parts like drills for digging were carried into the Chinese side of the "White birch" gas field at East China Sea (Chinese called it Chunxiao). Mr. Maehara was regarded as "Hard-liner towards China", and people related to the government pointed out that "The disclosure to China details on the conference between the Prime Minister and the Foreign Ministers was restrained".
The Japan Coast Guard was taking video when the fishing boat collided with the patrol boat. It was because of the idea of taking into consideration (by high-ranking Foreign Ministry officials) of these postures that Japanese Government didn't pull by as much as by one step over the treatment of the captain, "If the video is seen, the malignancy of the fishing boat is clear".
It is an interesting confrontation. I hope it will be over soon.
