A few weeks ago the Yomiuri News on-line reported the following:

An equipment that could inspect liquid to know whether it was an explosive would be introduced into the traveling connection check points (at all the 9 locations) at the international airline of Narita Airport on the 10th (April).

The measure in regulating the carrying of liquid into the airplane for anti-terrorism purpose was eased, and if safety was confirmed, one could carry it along. This was the first time in the country.

Since the airplane terrorist plotted to use liquefied explosives was revealed in Britain in 2006, restrictions were carried out in all countries. Liquid objects such as alcohol and lotion of duty-free goods that exceeded 100 ml would be confiscated at the checking locations.

However, as the confiscation of duty-free goods incident one succeeded another, dissatisfaction had come out from the visitors. In the West or in Australia, the carrying was allowed on the condition of an inspection. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism also changed its directive in January this year. The Narita International Airport Company said that in Narita there were about 500 confiscations a month on average.

In Narita, about twenty percent of the users were interline connection passengers. South Korea’s Incheon airport which was having a rival relation had already introduced it. A person in charge of the company also said that "is it not wanting to say that since there is a transit in Incheon, the item is confiscated in Narita".

The checking relaxation is good news for the travelers.
