Recently the Mainichi News reported the following:

The "Pacific saury festival of Meguro", a traditional festival named after the classical rakugo performance's known punch line of "restricting a Pacific saury to Meguro" was opened on the 4th in the shopping center in front of Meguro Station in Shinagawa District, Tokyo. Iwate which had offered the Pacific saury every year was hit by the East Japan great earthquake; and although at one time there was the worry of whether to hold it, Mayor Masanori Yamamoto said "the festival is important for Miyako, it was also for requital of a favor (reconstruction assistance), we certainly send them to you", and about 7000 seasonal Pacific sauries were sent safely.

Although the char-broiled Pacific saury was served every year for free, this year a contribution was collected by "Making donation to the collection box" as it was linked up with the theme of assisting the earthquake disaster reconstruction. The gathering place, located next to the JR Meguro Station, was extremely popular with the largest line-up of up to about 1-km; noting that the shopping center promotion union representative director Mr. Shu Ikeda (64) said " if the festival can be of a small help to the recovery".

In Japan many activities are held with a theme that is related to helping the earthquake recovery.
