Recently the Yomiuri News reported the following:

On the 21st President Ma Yingjiu of Taiwan in his Presidential Office in Taipei city, in response to a joint interview with Oijawa Shoichi the supreme adviser to the Yomiuri Shimbun group headquarters and Ryoutsuyoshi Sugita the chairman of Nihon Keizai Shimbun Inc., in regard to the economic cooperation between Taiwan and Japan that eyed on the joint advancement into the Chinese market that had grown up rapidly, described that "It is possible to institutionalize it more", and disclosed the thinking regarding the need to conclude an Agreement on the Protection of Investment etc.
President Ma described that "(For Taiwan and Japan) the success rate would rise if they enter the market by cooperation", and pointed out the strong point for cooperation was that the Taiwanese enterprise was well informed of the Chinese market while Japanese firm was in technology.
China and Taiwan last June concluded an economic cooperation framework agreement (ECFA) that was a de facto Free Trade Agreement (FTA); for the Japanese firms it became easier to cooperate with a Taiwanese enterprise, and it became easier to enter the Chinese market. For Taiwan and Japan, the example that came out regarding the joint advancement into China was to cooperate in the fields of information-communication technology and in machine tools.

It seems that because of the ECFA, the economic tie between Taiwan and Japan will grow in the future.
