美,英.中國拯救隊在日本

「ＴＳＵＮＡＭＩ」の爪痕はここまですさまじいのか。岩手県大船渡市の被災地に入り、生存者の捜索活動を行っている米国、英国、中国の救助隊員は、生々しい現実を目の当たりにしている。経験豊富な救助のプロも現地入りした際は、言葉を失うほどだった。

　大船渡入りしたのは米国１５０人、英国７０人、中国１５人。１５日から地元の住民や消防隊員に被害状況を聞き、救助犬を使いながら、がれきの山をかき分けて捜索している。米国のジョージ・カーペンターさん（３２）は「一人でも助けられないかと思って仕事をしている」。ジョー・カレダさん（５１）は「スマトラやハイチの大地震よりもひどい」とショックを受けていた。

　中国からの救助隊員は「津波はあっという間に家屋を横倒しにするので、地震のような災害とは大きく性質が異なると感じた」と驚いていた。「四川大地震で日本に支援の手をさしのべてもらった。私たちも喜んで捜索に協力したい」と話した.
